London Social City Map creates social environments that compress personal spatial boundaries to cultivate various interactions. I observed how people interacted with each other in public space and how human behavior varies in different environment. Based on these observations, I created a series of unexpected activities in London to challenge people's perceptions of public space and interaction in different ways.
Site 1: Covent garden market / Column
Passers-by lean on the column when they are waiting for someone. I would like to play with the perception of materials and structure by attaching something on the column to cause the bouncy, rotate and sliding effect.
Site 2: Victoria Tube Station / Bench
Strangers tend to sit on both sides of a bench rather than sitting next to each other in public space. My aim is to stimulate interaction among strangers by adding unpredictable effect in public seating. For instance, rocking bench would create seesaw effect and sliding chair would subtly reduce distance.
Site 3: Hyde Park / Grass mow
People like holding their head when lying on the grass. Grass mow is created to allow this action in a more comfort way and gathering people together.
Site 4: Albert Memorial / Sliding chair
Around Albert Memorial, people sit on the staircase. Sliding chair is designed by putting on the stairs and fit into the same height. It provides the comfy
seating position and also has mechanism hiding inside. When people sit on the sliding chair, it will suddenly sliding to the other person.
By observing the social interactions in London, there are opportunities to challenge people’s perception of public installation and allow interactive dialogue between people and environment.

London Social City Map has ten spots that you can find the new intervention around there. It only tell you the basic information then you need to find out by yourself.
